I. Indo-German Dialogue on Urban Green Practices in Chennai

9-11 March 2017 | Kalakshetra

From March 9 -11 2017 researchers, practitioners and activists from India, Germany and other countries gathered in Chennai for an Indo-German Dialogue on Green Urban Practices funded by Heinrich Böll Foundation and organised by Wuppertal Institut and the Indo-German Centre for Sustainability.

The three-day workshop was held using The Collaboratory methodology and included brainstorming, discussion rounds, work phases in alternating groups, and a field visit to different locations. The main aim was to enable an exchange of views on the topic of sustainable measures and to find a common aim for the future. Based on the experience of the participants, ideas for Indo-German projects were developed and are to be carried out in the coming months and years.

The final ideas include a collaboration for co-creative writing, creating a database of initiatives for future workshops, establishing interactions of gardens and waste management in Chennai, and to organise a car-free day in a Chennai neighbourhood. In addition, an overarching festival that gives space for dialogue between the participants and those interested to join, stands at the centre of the outcome of this workshop.
