Prof. E. Schmachtenberg, Rector, RWTH Aachen University, and Prof. B. Ramamurthi, Director, IIT Madras, inaugurated the XXII Summer School at Aachen. 27 Students from different universities in Germany and India will partipate in numerous lectures and workshops of the Indo-German Centre for Sustainability (IGCS) on “Sustainable urban water and wastewater management” India – Germany. Thematic lectures are held by Prof BS Murty, Prof Ligy Philip, Prof Chella Rajan (IIT Madras), Prof A. A. Kazmi (IIT Rourkee), Prof M. Kranert and Prof H. Schönberger, University of Stuttgart. Talks by Prof. T.R. Rüde (RWTH Aachen University), Dr. A. Follmann (University of Cologne) and Dr Falkenberg (ZEF Bonn) complement the Indo-German program.
The interactive program and workshops include excursions to WWTP Stolberg and Municipal Drainage Operations in Cologne guided by FiW-staff of the Research Institute for Waste and Wastewater Manangement. The cultural program offers a reception by Mayor of Aachen City, Mr Marcel Philipp, Town Hall tour, Cologne City tour and walks to Three Countries Point (Dreiländereck) and Maastricht. The program is hosted by Prof R. Azzam, Centre Coordinator of IGCS, Dept. of Engineering Geology and Hydrogeology of RWTH Aachen University and financed by DAAD on behalf of BMBF.
